Jade Plant

Hello friends! Welcome to Paudhayan. Hope your Paudhayan is growing and flourishing day by day.
The problem is eternal. To avoid it, you may completely ignore these people and their unsolicited advice or grow such plants which are considered auspicious to keep and grow in the house.
Benefits
Jade Plant is one such magnificent plant. If you have to deal with such guests and still want to grow a Paudhayan of your own, plant Jades in your home or Paudhayan. In Chinese Feng Shui and Indian Vastu Shastra, it is said they bring happiness and prosperity to the home.
Plus, the plant is delight to the eyes and remains healthy for years without any special care on your part. It also cleans the air from many toxic materials such as Formaldehyde and Benzene etc.
Name
Leaves of this plant are mostly of jade green colour. Hence the name - Jade Plant. Keeping them in home brings health, wealth, positivity and prosperity. That is why they are known as Money Plant, Lucky Plant, friendship Tree etc. In scientific world they are known as Crassula ovata.
Get to Know Me
Jade Plants having tiny, shiny and fleshy dark green leaves with sturdy deep brown stem and branches look like a small tree. They may be easily developed as bonsai. If not pruned, their branches grow long and start hanging. Then, they may be decorated as a beautiful hanging plant. Many varieties of Jade Plants exist in nature with different shapes, sizes and colours of leaves. You can choose among them as per your choice and colour scheme of your home.
Sun and Shade
Naturally these plants live in African countries and islands. These are some of the hottest places on Earth. Hence, the plant survives excess heat and drought. But Jades are not accustomed to extreme cold, frost or snow. Keep them under the shade or indoors in harsh winters. In rest of the days they love a bright sunny spot to grow. They remain healthy indoors too but prolonged absence of light results in 'leggy' overstretched branches. In that case they must be pruned frequently in order to keep their proper shape and size. In complete absence of natural light, their leaves turn yellow and eventually fall off. In such place, install a good grow light above the plant to let it grow well.
Water Needs
They need little water to survive. Water only when the soil is completely dry. If kept indoors during winters, watering once in 15 to 20 days is enough. In summers, water them once a week. If kept in open, reduce this interval by half.
Soil
They do not require any particular type of soil. But they feel happy in sand and gravels. If that is not available, prepare the soil by mixing some sand and pebbles in clay or loam. If that is also not possible, just plant them in clay or loam and water them in small quantities at longer intervals as clay and loam retain moisture for longer period of time.
Pot and Planter
The pot or container in which you plant them must have holes at the bottom for water to drain out. Do not plant them directly in a metal pot or pot without holes. For decoration purposes, if you want to plant them in such a planter, do not plant them directly in it. Rather, plant them in a normal pot with holes and then put it inside the decorative pot.
What to Feed
Jade plants do not require any fertilizer to grow. So you may totally skip feeding them. But for a healthy fast growing plant with shiny leaves, they may be fed with any balanced fertilizer in small quantity at most once a month.
How to Care
These simple plants remain happy and healthy even without any special care or attention. If not pruned for long, their branches overstretch and hang down. You may just cut them aesthetically and leave them hanging. But if you want to train the plant to develop as a bonsai or to keep it straight like a tree, do not let the branches grow long. instead, keep pruning them from time to time, so the stem grows thick and sturdy and well prepared to bear more weight. Now, new branches will also be strong and a good bonsai will be ready after a few years. Thus, the plant keeps the home green and pleasant without any trouble. If you often have to stay out of the house, you are fond of traveling and also want to grow a Paudhayan and even if you do not have much time to take care of the plants, grow Jade plants without hesitation. These plants will always be your wonderful companions.
So friends, this was our plant today. If you have any more information, questions or problems about them, please do ask and let us know. We will meet again soon with another wonder of nature. Till then take care of your Paudhayan.
Bye!
