Planter: Material

Hello Friends! Hope your Paudhayan is doing great. Friends, today we will talk about the most important thing about Paudhayan.
Actually, there is only one thing required to make Paudhayan- a single plant or just a seed. The whole Paudhayan may be developed by this only seed. A little land or some water is needed for it. But in case of shortage of land, especially in congested urban areas, the most important thing for the plant is its pot. The planter has a great impact on plant's health, growth and even on its ability to reproduce.
Therefore, buy a pot according to the nature of the plant, always. Everything about the planter like its shape and size, its length and width, the material that it is made of, shape and size of its mouth should be best suited for the plant inside it. We will discuss all about these one by one.
First of all, we will talk about the material which they are made of. Nowadays, hundreds of pots are available in the market in different sizes and prices, from simple cheap pots like clay and cement to those made of wood, bamboo, ceramic, stone, plastic, foam, fiber and metals such as brass, copper or iron. And its very confusing to choose just the right type of planter according to our plant, home and budget.
Which type of pot is best suited for you depends on many things other than the nature of the plant. Such as climate of the place where you reside, the current season, your experience about the plants you have, and last but not the least, how much time you can spare for your Paudhayan.
Nature is The Best
Terracotta pots are the best because water keeps evaporating from their surface, keeping the soil cool inside it. So, even in hot places or during summer, these pots keeps them luscious green. If the plant is delicate and cannot bear too much heat or you are new to gardening, then also you should buy terracotta planters.
The color of baked clay has a warmth and comfort that makes you feel cozy and homely. If you want to stay connected to the your roots in city of concrete, just have some plants in clay pots.
These planters may be brittle if not baked properly, especially during the rains. So, while buying them, make sure that they are properly baked. For this, try hitting them. If you hear a 'ping' sound like that in metals, it means the pot is well baked.

Cement/Concrete Planters
These pots are made by mixing cement and concrete in sand. These are also porous and water seeps out through their surface keeping the soil cool inside them. These planters keep the plant happy and healthy like clay pots and are more robust than them.
But these are little heavy, so try to place them where they do not have to be moved frequently.
While using cement or terracotta pots, keep in mind that water constantly evaporates from their surface, so the soil inside dries up fast. So they have to be watered more frequently than other planters. Water loving plants should be planted in them only when you can water them every day or at least once in 2 to 3 days as per the weather conditions.
Wooden or Bamboo Pots
pots made of wood or bamboo may be used when the temperature is normal for the plants that are not too delicate. As these are non-porous, they are also suitable for water-loving plants. Soil inside them does not cool down naturally but they are bad conductors of heat. So the temperature of the soil changes only according to the surroundings.
Pots Made of Plastic or Fiber
These are artificial versions of wooden pots. These pots are the cheapest, lightest and most durable, so they are most popular too and available in myriads of shapes and sizes.
Stone or Glazed Ceramic Planters
A pot made of glazed ceramic or stone is not porous and cools and heats up quickly. Therefore, the soil not only gets heated by the sun but also by the heat absorbed by the pot. When it is watered, it gets even hotter because the latent heat that is released when water turns into steam cannot escape from it. Therefore, use them only when the weather is normal, the plant can tolerate heat and you have good experience in gardening.
But these pots are also very attractive, so they may be used for indoor plants or the plants which need little sun or only light to thrive. If it has to be kept outside, then plant cactus or succulents in them that tolerate intense heat. Do not water too much. If you still want to plant a delicate beautiful plant in these pots, then plant it in a plastic or fiber pot and then place it inside these.
Metal Pots
Lastly, we come to the decorative pots made of metal. You will notice that they do not have any drainage hole at the bottom. Apart from this, they are not porous and also good conductors of heat. Actually, these are not made for plants but for decorating the house. Therefore, do not plant directly inside them. Rather, without giving much thought, keep any plant along with its pot inside these. This way, the plant will be happy and you can always give a new look to the house just by changing the plant inside.
So friends, you have seen that planters also play a very important role in the greenery of your garden. For any plant, its pot is its home. Choosing the right pot increases the happiness of the plant and the greenery of the Paudhayan.
We will know more about the planters next time. Till then, happy Paudhayan!
